Student Chapter Support

Student Chapters want YOU!

As part of our outreach to future communicators, we are committed to mentoring students by supporting AWC chapters at Missouri State University and Drury University.  We are extremely fortunate to have a committed group of AWC volunteers who sponsor student activities throughout the school year. 

Extreme Networking

Students dress professionally and bring in resumes to be critiqued by AWC members in a variety of fields.  Each student visits with a professional about anything they want for 5 minutes; then she rotates.  Students have the opportunity to meet with 5 to 6 members and then the group recaps some of the best tips or insights.

Shadow Day

In the Spring, students fill out an application and rank their interest in a number of communication fields.  Faculty sponsors and the AWC Board Liaison match student participants with volunteers from the professional chapter based on areas of expertise.  The shadowing experience lasts a minimum of 4 hours or even an entire day.  This event is a fantastic opportunity for students to get a view into the real world and professionals benefit from seeing their work through fresh eyes. 

Student Panels

Students are always welcome and encouraged to attend our professional chapter meetings, especially as they are approaching graduation.  At one of the meetings each year, we schedule a program for a panel of students to share with us what they are doing and their views of entering the workforce.
